Everyday Queer Problems, Part 1

I’m dragging my girlfriend to Winter Formal with me this week, so I thought it would be cute if we had a matching boutonniere/corsage or whatever it is you’re supposed to do.

At first I thought we might both have corsages, because we both identify as female.

But then I thought that I might have a boutonniere and she might have a corsage, because I’m wearing a suit.

But then I thought that we might both have boutonnieres because she might not be wearing a dress.

But then I realized that doesn’t make sense.

So then I said, “Fuck heteronormativity and society’s gender roles!”

But then by that time I had already ordered one corsage and one boutonniere, much to the confusion of the florist, who could hardly tell what gender I was, let alone why I was buying both a boutonniere and a corsage.

This has been a post.
